Pascal Editor: Local-First 3D Architectural MCP Client for AI Agents
Pascal Editor: Local-First 3D Architectural Design with MCP
The Pascal editor provides an open-source, local-first 3D architectural editing environment, built with React Three Fiber and WebGPU. It's designed to facilitate practical workflows for both human designers and AI agents, enabling direct connection of AI agents via MCP. This TypeScript client offers a unique approach to integrating AI into 3D design, running either in a browser or from a local CLI.
Running the Editor and MCP Service Locally
Getting started with the Pascal editor is straightforward, requiring Node.js 22.13 or newer. A persistent local installation can be created without cloning the repository, using the provided CLI:
npx @pascal-app/cli editorThis command not only starts the editor but also launches an authenticated MCP service in the background. It automatically selects collision-free loopback ports and manages project data in ~/.pascal/data/pascal.db. The core CLI and its embedded MCP service are part of the npm package, while the web editor runtime is downloaded once upon first use.
MCP Integration and Registry
The Pascal editor's MCP integration is central to its design, particularly for connecting AI agents. The project maintains a server.json manifest, which serves as Pascal's official declaration for the MCP Registry. This manifest's versioning is independent of the npm package version, tracking the hosted MCP implementation directly.
Pull requests against the Pascal GitHub repository validate this manifest and its production endpoint, ensuring consistency and reliability. Once approved, a Pascal organization owner publishes the validated version from the main branch using the official registry publisher. This structured approach ensures that the Pascal editor's MCP capabilities are consistently discoverable and verifiable within the broader MCP ecosystem.
